Any commercial or open source Library Automation software (SOUL, KOHA or Greenstone) : Hands on training in Acquisition, Circulation, Cataloguing, Serial Control, OPAC and Administrative
Unit: 2 - Internet Searching tools:
Basic, Advanced Search Techniques, Google Searching Tools
Unit: 3 - Information Sources searching:
WorldCat, WebOPACs, Library of Congress (LC) Online Catalog, British Library Catalogues, Indcat etc.

Research is an essential component of Library and Information Science (LIS) that helps in understanding problems, improving library services, and developing new knowledge.
This course introduces students to the basic concepts, principles, and practices of research in LIS.
Students will learn the meaning, need, types, and process of research, along with the spiral of the scientific method and research ethics.
The course also provides an understanding of literature search and its importance in conducting research.
Students will become familiar with research design, including the selection and formulation of research problems.
They will learn how to prepare a research synopsis and formulate appropriate hypotheses.
Various research methods such as historical, descriptive, case study, experimental, and Delphi methods are discussed.
The course further introduces students to primary and secondary data and their sources.
Students will learn different data collection tools and techniques, including questionnaires, interviews, and observation.
Recent and emerging techniques of data collection will also be introduced.
Special attention is given to research ethics and responsible conduct of research.
Overall, the course aims to develop students’ research knowledge, skills, and scientific attitude.
It will enable students to plan, conduct, and evaluate basic research studies in Library and Information Science.
The knowledge gained through this course will also help students in project work, dissertations, and future research activities.
